We can patinate any copper alloy (bronze or brass) in sheet, angle or casting. The most commonly requested finish is a BMA finish and we offer this either as standard or dark.
The type of alloy does have an impact on the final colour - for example 90 / 10 Gilding Metal (CZ101) gives a much richer brown due to the high copper content. A satin finish applied to the metal sutface will also improve the colour. Polished surfaces can be patinated but the results tend to be lighter and not as durable.
We can also "blacken" mild steel, this is a similer process to a BMA finish and is used to create a range of black to grey colours. It cannot be used to create a bronze effect on steel.
The majority of our chemical finishes are sealed with clear wax. Lacquer can also be used but a waxed finish can be touched up and reapplied whereas a lacquered finish cant.
We only undertake BMA finishing in situ.
